Kann-Kur, Guardian of the Threshold

Fake Bloodborne 2 boss for VaatiVidya's contest -

It is said that the land was cursed long ago by the actions of a civilisation that once dwelt in the vale. Through rites and rituals, they called an ancient menace down from the great dark between the stars. Across the aeons it stretched a sinuous tentacle and made the first contact with humanity. A pact was formed that would ensure the doom of Loran, and eventual ruin of us all. To the covetous people of Ioth, it whispered dark and unspeakable things, ways in which a life could be distilled into essential salts and used to revive the dead or fortify the living. With the guidance of this entity, the people of Ioth swept like a plague across the ancient world.

Legends of the great city they built in that vale are all that remain. The reality of the terrible experimentation that occurred there warped by time into grand tales of Gods and immortal heroes, of cities paved with gold and monuments of precious stone. Is it any wonder, then, that the occasional foreign explorer will ignore all warnings and travel to the ruins in search of the untold wealth buried within them? If you believe the tales, there is more to gain than mere jewelry.

It is under these circumstances that you brave the weather and enter the tunnels beneath the city, only to find that the ruins aren’t as deserted as they first appear.

You find Kann-Kur deep in the bowels of the earth, a colossal beast protruding from a wall. He appears still, statuesque, and is surrounded by a ring of candles and the bones of former offerings. All manner of creatures kneel before him, worshipping at a safe distance. Only when you step beyond the candle-ring does he finally move...
